A different sort of story might be calling to "Call Me By Your Name" director Luca Guadagnino: a "comedic drama" involving artificial intelligence that he's reportedly negotiating to helm for Amazon MGM Studios.
If the busy filmmaker does take on the project, it would mark a new collaboration between him and Amazon MGM Studios, for which Guadagnino previously "directed 'After the Hunt,' starring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edebiri," Variety noted.
That film, the entertainment news publication added, is due in theaters this coming October 10.
Guadagnino also directed last year's Amazon MGM Studios release "Challengers," Variety recalled. That film, which stars Josh O'Connor, Zendaya, and Mike Faist, centered around a steamy love triangle among tennis pros.
The Italy-born director has made headlines recently for all the different projects he is reportedly involved with, including a new cinematic adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' controversial 1991 novel "American Psycho," a movie version of DC comics' "Sgt. Rock," a documentary about fellow Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci, and a big-screen treatment of Pier Vittorio Tondelli's gay novel "Separate Rooms."
Hollywood A-listers have also been named in conjunction with some of these projects, including Austin Butler, who is rumored to be in talks for "American Psycho," and Colin Farrell, who reportedly is in consideration for the starring role in "Sgt. Rock."
If Butler turns out not to be cast in the "American Psycho" remake, there's already a queue of queer fan-favorites forming for the role: Patrick Schwarzenegger has been vocal about his desire to follow up his season on "The White Lotus" with a turn as "American Psycho" central character Patrick Bateman, as has "Monsters" star Cooper Koch.
A prolific filmmaker, Guadagnino released two films last year: In addition to "Challengers," he helmed the Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey-starring "Queer." He reunited with his "Call Me By Your Name" star Timothée Chalamet for "Bones and All" (2022), and directed the sizzling HBO miniseries "We Are Who We Are" (2020) as well as a remake of the Dario Argento horror classic "Suspiria" (2018).
