Canadian pop star Shawn Mendes took to social media Tuesday night and shared an emotional note he wrote to fans about living his truth and the rollercoaster ride of being a famous singer.

"Sometimes I ask myself what it is that I should be doing with my life and what I always hear in return is 'to tell the truth, to be the truth,'" Mendes, 23, started off in his note. "I feel like that's a hard thing to do though. I'm afraid that if people know and see the truth they might think less of me. They might become bored of me."

Mendes went on to write that sometimes he feels like he is "either flying or drowning."

"Maybe that's just what it is to be in your 20's idk, or maybe that's just me," he continued. "The truth is I really do wanna show up in the world as my 100% true honest unique self and not care what anyone thinks, sometimes I do!! Sometimes I really don't care what people think and I feel free. most of the time its a struggle tho. That's the truth."

He added that despite the success in his career, he still finds "it hard to feel like I'm not failing," going on to say that "the truth is I'm overwhelmed and overstimulated...the truth is ALSO that I'm okay."

His message to fans, which earned nearly 100,000 likes on Twitter, comes not long after the "Summer of Love" singer split from girlfriend and fellow pop star Camila Cabello after two years together. Since their breakup, Mendes released the single "It'll Be Okay" and "When You're Gone." Check them out below.
